Terms

The rental rules, in plain words.

Last updated October 2, 2026.

The short version. Tap to pay, grab a charger, return it to any Recharj station. $3 to unlock plus $3 for every hour, rounded up, $20 a day at most. Not returned within 3 days: $50, and that is the most you'll ever pay for one rental. A $50 hold goes on your card when you tap and is released when you return the charger. Questions: hello@recharj.ca.

Who we are

Recharj is run by 2710206 Alberta Inc., operating as Recharj, in Calgary, Alberta. These terms apply every time you rent a charger from a Recharj station. Tapping to pay means you accept them. The price on the station's screen when you tap is the price that applies.

The rental

You tap a credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay on the station's card reader. A charged power bank pops out. It is yours to use until you slide it back into any Recharj station with a free slot. The rental ends when a station accepts the charger and confirms the return on its screen. Debit cards don't work yet.

Chargers are checked before they go out. If yours doesn't work, return it to a station and email us the station, date and time; we refund the rental.

Price

  • $3 to unlock, plus $3 for every hour or part of an hour. 20 minutes counts as one hour.
  • $20 a day at most.
  • Prices are in Canadian dollars.

If the charger isn't returned

If a charger has not been returned to a Recharj station within 72 hours (3 days) of the start of the rental, we charge $50 to the card you tapped. That $50 replaces the rental fee for that rental and is the most you will ever be charged for one rental. We would rather have the charger back: if it turns up later, email us.

Card holds

When you tap, a $50 hold is placed on your card through our payment provider, Stripe. A hold is not a charge. When you return the charger, you are charged only for the time you used, and the rest of the hold is released. How quickly the released amount shows up depends on your bank.

Returns

Return the charger to any Recharj station, not only the one you took it from. Slide it into a free slot until it clicks. The screen confirms the return and shows your total. If every slot at a station is full, use another Recharj station or email us.

Refunds and problems

If a charge isn't right, email hello@recharj.ca with the station, the date and the approximate time. Never send card numbers by email. We reply, and charges that aren't right are refunded to the same card.

Taking care of the charger

Use it the way you would use your own: keep it dry, don't open it, don't leave it in a hot car. You are responsible for damage beyond normal wear, up to the $50 non-return charge. Return it in the condition you received it.

Our responsibility

We keep the chargers and stations in working order. We are not responsible for what happens because a phone was not charged in time, or for damage to a device caused by misuse of a charger. Where the law lets us limit liability, our liability for a rental is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing here limits rights you have under Alberta consumer law.

Changes

We may update these terms. The version on recharj.ca at the time you tap is the one that applies.
